Message from the Director

Richard Younge, MD, MPH; Associate Professor of Medicine (in the Center for Family and Community Medicine) at the Columbia University Medical Center; Director, Center for Family and Community Medicine

Welcome to the Columbia University Center for Family and Community Medicine NewYork-Presbyterian Family Medicine Residency Program. Family medicine is part of a university and a hospital that have deep institutional roots in the NYC communities of northern Manhattan: Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood.

Our faculty's practice, teaching, and scholarship contribute to the physical, behavioral, and social health and well-being of the communities we serve. We value excellence and innovation in providing evidence-based clinical services, interprofessional collaboration, and community partnerships. We are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect in all aspects of our work with our patients, our Farrell Community Health Center and Allen Hospital staff, and each other.

The Center recently received seed grant funding from the Columbia Provost’s office for a project: “Addressing Racism through Education, Intentional Recruitment, and Advocacy.” NewYork-Presbyterian recently established a Center for Health Justice, and I anticipate that family medicine will be a part of not only imagining an equitable and socially just institution, but actively lead efforts in pursuing one. I invite you to learn more about our distinguished faculty, inspiring residents, and exceptional curriculum as you browse our website.

For Health and Justice,
